Once upon a time, we’re both just two seven-year-olds kids at the same birthday party, in the same photo, with absolutely no idea it would mean anything.

Life carried on, as it does. Alain stayed firmly on his side of the Atlantic, being British and cold, most of the time. I moved to the UK in 2012, blissfully unaware that a future husband was somewhere in the same country, probably charming someone into something.

Then fate stepped in, with its usual flair for the dramatic. A holiday back to Brazil, where he happened to be living and working at the time. As luck would have it, he was working alongside someone I knew from school and a couple of DMs later, we were talking.

The holiday ended. Flights home were booked. We assumed that was that.

Ten days later, he’d packed up his entire life and moved back to England. TEN days. We’ve since agreed to call this “decisive” rather than “alarming.”

Four years and a beautiful family later, here we are.

Now we’re bringing it all back to São Paulo, where it truly began, to say “I do” somewhere that means the world to both of us.
